Platinum (Youth) Grade Hockey

Canterbury Hockey Association (CHA) has recently made changes to the structure of entry level hockey from junior to senior grade hockey.  This includes the removal of "youth" grade hockey.

Division 3 is the lowest grade within the Senior Open Grade Competition.  This grade has a tiered structure to give Year 9 players a clear pathway through senior grade hockey and look to retain experienced/older players.

Previously, there were many options for Year 9 players as they moved from junior to senior hockey that raised uncertainty and concerns .  The new Division 3 Platinum Grade provides a player with a clear progression through senior grade hockey, see diagram below.

The Division 3 Platinum grade is restricted to under 18 players only.  It is expected that players will play in this grade for two years in this Division 3 Platinum grade before they progress (at Year 11) to the most suitable grade for their enjoyment and ability.

This grade is intended to create a competitive and quality grade for player development within physical limitations.  This grade has increased social opportunities for young players developing with their peers and a greater awareness of an individual player's current ability compared to their peers.
